The Jolly Green Giant is Alive and Well

For two days now I have been riding past nothing but field upon field of corn (on the cob). They must grow the lot for the whole world here, I have never seen the like before. The plants sure look healthy, and the soil is jet black, bet they could grow anything here.

Bit of a none day again today, think I may have peaked earlier in the week. Rode just over 200 miles, the last 100 on a dead straight dual carriageway. BORING, BORING, BORING.

Stopped at a town called Wellington for the night, booked into a hotel and rode into town, (downtown). Thought I would at least find some shops, no, not a one. Even asked a local who said that all the shops had been and gone as a mall had opened out of town. What a dump, even the roads were being torn up! Would not recommend a visit to this place, apparently, the only good thing about the place is the John Deere tractor factory - now that says something!

Tomorrow I will call into Galena, 60 mile down the road, for some retail therapy, heard that it is quite nice - we will see. After that I will be making a detour to a village called Linden, which is supposed to have a Laxey cemetary. Supposed to have some sort of link to Laxey, Isle of Man, again, I shall see.

So, nothing to report today and no dramas, so, its edukashun time,

2 new states to report on,.

Nebraska, The Cornhusker State (told you the Jolly Green Giant was well), bird is the western Meadowlark (this is getting a little repetitive eh), tree is the Cottonwood and flower is the Goldenrod.

Iowa. The Hawkeye State (M.A.S.H.?), bird is the Eastern Goldfinch, tree is the Oak and flower, Wild Rose.

There, all done for another state and another day. Should think I will stop for the night just before Chicago, at least that way I can get through or around the city on Sunday whilst traffic is lighter. Do not want to go into Chicago at all if I can help it. Next week I should be at Niagara falls which I am looking forward too, its just the bit in between that I feel will be a let down after what I have seen in the west.
